Appetite For Destruction

dir. Zehra Eda Sert, 18’08’’

Seçil (45), who tries to control her children through strictness, forces her family to come together for a dinner to celebrate the birthday of her self-harming teenage daughter Ilgın (16). The already strained family dynamics worsen when Seçil’s older daughter, Ege (23), arrives with her girlfriend, who is 15 years older than her, causing Ilgın to experience even more distress. As tensions rise between Ege and Seçil, a buried secret comes to light. Meanwhile, Cüneyt (50), who catches Ilgın making herself vomit right before the dinner, pressures her to eat at the table. Seizing the chaos caused by Ege’s revelations, Seçil takes the opportunity to throw out the girlfriend she sees as her rival. Obsessed with realizing her ideal image of a family, Seçil forces everyone to act as though nothing has happened, making Ilgın play the piano during the meal. The children’s attempts to break free from their mother’s control end in failure, leaving them with no choice but to conform to the “normal” their mother imposes.
